To practice techniques and spark creativity, members work together to create group projects. The projects will have a common theme while allowing each member to express their own unique style within the agreed upon parameters. These group projects are often on display during Guild demonstrations and gallery displays.

“Telephone Project”

Like the old fashioned game of Telephone, where a secret is passed ear to ear

  • The inspiration piece gave me so many options that for a long time, I couldn’t decide which direction to take my work. When I did make a choice, it was to limit myself to one aspect of the whole, amplify it, and then choose a single embellishment from the other possibilities to finish it off.
  • Xan's chest-shaped inro inspired me to create a mini version of a sculpture I was working on at that time: a wooden trunk filled with strings of various gemstones, ivory, coral, wood, etc., all made of polymer clay. It also inspired me to create my first inro (following Donna Kato's tutorial). The result: a trunk-shaped inro, wearable and fully functional, filled with a hidden treasure of beads.
  • I was inspired by the inro form of the previous piece and its use of faux wood grain in polymer clay.
  • I always notice color first, I used a similar combination, I love domes and spirals so included that in my interpretation.
  • I chose to continue both the 3d & spiral themes of Deb Hutchison's spiral on a dome.
  • Allie’s 3D spirals looked like a coral maze, I decided to fill them in and add depth to make colorful bubble columns.
  • I saw layers of Skinner Blend spirals on top of each other.
  • I like faces and color and thought about how heads have ears and telephones need ears which are attached to faces. I loved the shape of the piece I was following and the hints of color
  • Inspired by the rainbow of colors and the towering shape shared by the previous person
  • I love collaborations, and the telephone project fits right into that category. I think that that the idea of not knowing what I will be creating boosts the energy level and it’s so much fun to build off another artists’ orientation! My first instinct was to reverse the colors and to bring to light that reversal in my choice of creature to create. A chameleon turned out to be the perfect choice.
  • I interpreted the piece previous to mine as a dinosaur guarding a yellow egg. The egg became the focus of the piece for me. Can you guess where the stingray came from?
  • I was inspired by the eggshell in Sam's piece that the stingray appeared to hatch out of. I started thinking about what other undersea creatures hatch from eggs- and thought of fish, and then mermaids...and thought, mermaids being half fish, they quite possibly hatch from eggs! -in fact, I'm pretty sure I saw that one time-and that's what I went with.
  • Mermaid Cafe: "The image of a fried egg came into my head after seeing the mermaid coming out of an egg. Then I thought of using a lightbulb for the yoke. I continued with the mermaid and underwater theme to make a "swim up" window in the underwater cafe with an egg as a roof."

“Under the Sea”.
Participating members created a variety of sea life, which were then combined into this wonderful display, arranged by Laura Burlis.

“Rainbow”.
Participating members were assigned a color to create their own slice of this beautiful rainbow.
